Weyermann® CARARED® Malt is a light caramel malt that adds both sweetness and a striking reddish hue to beers. With a color range of 20–30 Lovibond, it imparts flavors of caramel, honey, and subtle fruitiness while enhancing malt depth and complexity.

Where It Shines

This malt is most often used in Red Ales, Amber Ales, and malt-forward styles where a warm reddish tint and smooth malt backbone are desired. Its flavor contribution supports both balanced hop-forward ales and rich, malty recipes.

Role in the Brewhouse

Weyermann® CARARED® Malt enhances body, sweetness, and foam stability while elevating the beer’s color. Its caramelization process provides layered malt character without overwhelming lighter base malts, making it a versatile ingredient in many recipes.

Brewer’s Guidance

Use CARARED® Malt at 5–25% of the grist depending on style and recipe goals. Lower percentages add subtle reddish color and light caramel notes, while higher additions provide more pronounced sweetness, body, and hue.
