Taste & Character

Briess Rice Hulls are an all-natural lautering aid made from processed rice husks. They are flavorless, colorless, and contribute no fermentables to wort—serving only to improve mash efficiency and lautering.

Where It Shines

Most valuable when brewing with high percentages of huskless grains such as wheat, rye, or oats, where mash beds can otherwise become sticky or compact. They are particularly useful in wheat beers, rye ales, and hazy IPAs.

Role in the Brewhouse

Rice hulls act strictly as a lautering adjunct—providing structure to the grain bed to prevent stuck sparges. They have no enzymatic power, color, or flavor contribution.

Brewer’s Guidance

Add 2–5% of the grist by weight when brewing with high percentages of wheat, rye, or oats. Simply mix into the mash to improve drainage and reduce lautering issues.
