Role in the Brewhouse

Simpsons Black Malt provides roasted character and color with minimal fermentable extract. Used sparingly, it contributes intense coffee and cocoa notes without excessive bitterness or astringency, helping to balance and enrich malt-forward dark styles.

Brewer’s Guidance

Use Black Malt at 1–5% of the grist for a pronounced roasted character, or in smaller amounts to fine-tune color and complexity. Pair it with crystal malts, chocolate malts, or roasted barley to layer flavors and create balanced dark beer recipes.
