CellarScience German Weihenstephan Lager Yeast – 12 g
Brand: CellarScience
Why Brewers Love It
This is the classic lager strain from Weihenstephan, Germany, used for generations to make clean, balanced lagers — from pilsners and helles to doppelbocks. It’s been adapted for homebrewers with high viability, direct-pitch capability, and consistent performance.
Flavor & Aroma Profile
Produces clean lager character with subtle malt sweetness and minimal ester or phenolic influence. At cooler fermentation temps (50-54 °F), very crisp and delicate; at the warmer upper end, slight richness and malt depth develop.
Best Uses
- Pilsners & Bohemian styles: Crisp, delicate hop showcase.
- German lagers: Helles, Märzen, doppelbock, Vienna lager.
- Traditional styles & hybrid brews: When you want clean profile with some lager character but without extreme temperature control.

Brew Tips
- Pitch using two sachets for a 5-6 gallon batch to ensure sufficient cell count.
- Ferment at the lower end (50-54 °F) for the crispest pilsner character; warmer temps up to 59 °F will yield a bit more malt richness.
- Direct pitching is supported thanks to high viability, but rehydration helps especially in high gravity or lagers where temperature shock is a concern.
