ACTI-ML — Malolactic Bacteria Nutrient Mix
Boosts MLF success by feeding and protecting Oenococcus oeni during rehydration.
Description
ACTI-ML is a specialized nutrient blend developed to support malolactic bacteria during rehydration and early fermentation. It combines specific inactivated yeasts—rich in amino acids, peptides, vitamins, and essential trace elements—with microcrystalline cellulose to help keep bacteria in suspension and resist inhibitory wine conditions. The result is faster, more reliable malolactic fermentation across red, white, and rosé wines.
Highlights
- Optimized for bacteria rehydration to shorten lag phase and improve MLF completion
- Inactivated yeast provides key growth factors (amino acids, peptides, vitamins, trace elements)
- Cellulose matrix helps keep cells suspended and resilient in difficult conditions
- Suitable across wine styles; effective in high-alcohol or low-pH wines
Use & Application
For rehydration: dissolve 0.71 oz (20 g) ACTI-ML in 3.4 fl oz (100 mL) clean, chlorine-free water at 77 °F (25 °C), then add ≈0.04 oz (1 g) of malolactic bacteria culture. Gently mix and follow your culture supplier’s inoculation timing for co-inoculation or post-alcoholic fermentation.
Dosage in wine: 0.03–0.05 oz per gallon (20–40 g/hL; ≈0.8–1.5 g/gal). Use the lower end for balanced wines and the higher end for challenging conditions such as low pH, elevated alcohol, or higher SO₂.
Tip: If MLF becomes sluggish or stuck, an additional dose of about 0.03 oz/gal (20 g/hL) may help restart activity.
Storage & Handling
Keep sealed and dry. Store cool and avoid heat and humidity. Use clean, chlorine-free water for rehydration and follow the lot-specific guidance on your package.
Compatibility
- Works with direct-inoculation and standard-type MLF cultures
- Effective across a wide range of wine styles and cellar conditions
